Beto O'Rourke says he's running for president in 2020

US Democrat Beto O'Rourke has said that he is running for president in 2020. The son of a powerful El Paso, Texas politician, O'Rourke won election to the El Paso City Council in 2005 and served there until his election to the U.S. House of Representatives in 2012. O'Rourke's entrance into the presidential race is the culmination of calls for him to explore a bid for national office that began after his closer-than-expected finish in the 2018 Senate campaign. He also drew heavy interest from showbiz figures during the race and endorsements from figures such as Willie Nelson and Beyoncé, as well as Ellen DeGeneres, who invited him on her show.

O'Rourke, a former punk musician who sometimes went skateboarding to blow off steam on the Texas campaign trail, may quickly achieve rockstar status if he runs. Amy Klobuchar, the politician known colloquially as "Beto" seems to have gotten under the president's skin - or at least gotten Trump's attention. "I want to be in it." he told the magazine.
