Cohen Told Lawyer To Ask Trump For Pardon

President Donald Trump's former fixer Michael Cohen delivered documents to the House on Wednesday showing specific changes in his false testimony to Congress from 2017.

Cohen testified under oath last week at a House Oversight Committee hearing that he had never asked for, and would not accept, a pardon from Trump.

Maine Sen. Susan Collins, a Republican member of the panel, said Thursday on CNN that senators "clearly need to re-interview some witnesses whose accounts (Cohen) contradicts". "He lied!" Trump tweeted today, while aboard Air Force One. "I said NO. He lied again!"

That firm withdrew from his case late last spring after the Trump Organization stopped paying Cohen's bills, a withdrawal the lawsuit says "prejudiced" Cohen's ability to respond to the federal investigations.

In his tweet, Trump, who has been seeking to discredit Cohen as he cooperates with federal prosecutors, referenced congressional testimony last week in which Cohen said he had never asked for, and would not accept, a pardon from Trump.

"Just another set of lies by @POTUS @realdonaldtrump".

Among the issues discussed in Cohen's closed-door interviews with the House and Senate last week were pardons, according to people familiar with those interviews.

Cohen also testified to Congress that he spoke directly to Mr Sekulow about pardons, according to the sources, which Mr Sekulow denies. The company complied with the agreement until Cohen indicated he would be willing to cooperate with prosecutors, the suit says.

Davis said the pardon was "dangled" by Team Trump and that Cohen's statement to the committee was truthful.

He also accused the president of committing crimes including campaign finance violations and potential tax fraud.

The lawsuit indicates that Cohen had been represented by McDermott Will & Emery in connection with investigations by Congress and special counsel Robert Mueller.

Calling Cohen a "bad lawyer and fraudster", Trump said, "His lawyers totally contradicted him". "As I have said in the past, the president has the right to, and that doesn't mean he won't consider it when the investigation is over". He has admitted to lying to Congress in his initial testimony previous year.

No pardon was given, and Cohen ultimately pleaded guilty and is cooperating against the president in separate investigations by the special counsel and by federal prosecutors in NY.

In those roles, he says, he made hush payment arrangements ahead of the 2016 election for two women who allegedly had affairs with Trump.
