Brendan Rodgers confirmed as new Leicester manager, Neil Lennon back at Celtic

Leicester are on the hunt for a new manager after Claude Puel was sacked on Sunday following a 4-1 home defeat to Crystal Palace.

In a statement, Celtic said "Brendan has indicated to the club that this is an opportunity he wishes to investigate further and therefore, very reluctantly, the club has granted him permission to speak to Leicester City". He saw his Swansea City side promoted from the Championship in 2011 and after the Swans' first season in the top flight, Rodgers took the Liverpool job ahead of the 2012-2013 season.

Rangers manager Steven Gerrard has conceded that he is not surprised by the timing of the possible departure of Brendan Rodgers from Celtic. I have been a Celtic supporter all my life and the reason I came to Glasgow was to work for the club I had such love and affection for.

"I have given everything to Celtic as a player and manager already in my career and I am ready to do the same again".

And if Rodgers is still motivated, in part at least, by showing the big clubs what he is capable of, there is probably no better vehicle for such a task than the club which upset the established order so dramatically three years ago.

"As projects, including the development of our new training ground and the proposed expansion of King Power Stadium continue to take shape, and as a young squad of great potential begins to mature, Brendan and his colleagues arrive at an exciting time for Leicester City".

Neil Lennon left Hibs under a cloud last month - but the former Hibs boss could be set for a sensational return to Easter Road as Celtic manager this weekend.

The 36-year-old scored his fourth goal against Hamilton and said: "We want to win every game we play - and we believe we're good enough to do that". He's going to a club who are playing for absolutely nothing - they are not going to get relegated, they are not going to get into Europe - and I am really disappointed. He has dominated Scottish football and ensured that Celtic has enjoyed unprecedented domestic success.
