El Chapo jury reaches guilty verdicts on 6th day of deliberations

A federal jury in NY has found Sinaloa cartel boss Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzmán Loera guilty of all 10 criminal counts against him, including the top charge of engaging in a continuing criminal enterprise.

NY jury reached a guilty verdict today in the El Chapo trial. The convictions include leading a criminal enterprise; drug trafficking of heroin, cocaine and other drugs; the use of firearms; and money laundering.

After he was convicted, the drug lord waved at his wife, Emma Coronel Aispuro, a former beauty queen, CNN reported.

The trial testimony lasted almost three months and the jurors have were tasked with deciding on 10 separate counts. He now faces a possible sentence of life in prison.

Jurors convicted Guzman on all 10 counts in an global drug distribution trial that lasted more than three months.

According to the New York Post, which dedicated reporters to covering his trial, 14 former associates were called to testify against him.

Jurors in a federal court in Brooklyn have delivered a guilty verdict on all 10 charges in a high point of the 11-week long trial, with several of the carrying a life sentence. Now, the jury has handed in their verdict, finding the Sinaloa Cartel's leader guilty on all ten counts.

Unlike other people in a similar position, Guzman would not plead guilty and went for a public trial after being extradited to the US. Guzman's lawyers did not deny his crimes as much as argue he was a fall guy for government witnesses who were more evil than he was.

The most detailed evidence against Guzman came from more than a dozen former associates who struck deals to cooperate with US prosecutors.

The drug lord, 61, faced charges of running a large-scale drug operation as the head of the Sinaloa drug cartel. However, he was caught in 2016 before he was extradited to the United States in 2017.
