Tomic brands Hewitt a ‘liar’ as feud continues

Australia's Davis Cup captain Lleyton Hewitt said on Thursday he had received physical threats from compatriot Bernard Tomic. "Blackmail threats and physical".

"I have never threatened his family", Tomic said.
Nice, Lleyton. To think how low of a person you actually [are].

"I got nothing to do with your family and I don't care what's wrong with you, you liar".

Hewitt said he did not feel threatened by Tomic's abuse but was frustrated after trying to help the former world No. 17, who has now dropped to 88 in the rankings. "As long as I have something to say, he will no longer be used", said Hewitt.

It began on Monday when, after a first-round loss, Tomic accused Hewitt of favouring some players over others and said no-one wanted him as Davis Cup captain.

To give Tsonga his due, that ranking is deceptive after he missed most of previous year through injury. Stephens hasn't made the fourth round of the Australian Open sine 2014.

Tomic and Hewitt have been feuding since Tomic claimed Australia couldn't win Davis Cup matches without him, and Hewitt refused to select him.

When asked whether he had received physical threats, Hewitt replied "Both".

"For me, it was probably the abuse that I caught from him that, yeah, in the end I drew a line in the sand", Hewitt said, adding that there was little chance of reconciliation. "No. No". He won't play Davis Cup while I have anything to do with it.

He was responding to Tomic's claims this week that Hewitt had ruined the national system and "no one likes him any more".

Earlier in the week, Tomic told the Herald Sun that he had threatened Hewitt two years ago, saying he would "knock him out" if he tried to talk to him.

Hewitt also criticised Kyrgios's controversial Twitter posts, which included a furious attack this week on the experienced Australian coach Roger Rasheed.

Australia's qualifying tie next month in Adelaide is against Bosnia and Herzegovina and Nick Kyrgios is also unlikely to play a role due to his sliding ranking and his attitude.

Australian men's tennis is now marked by social media rants and embarrassing on-court comments. He's doing the wrong thing.

However at present there were "cultural standards" not being met that were preventing any imminent return.

Bagged by Tomic for playing doubles in last year's World Group playoff loss to Austria, Hewitt has all but ruled himself out of lining up again.
