Malik was one of the six terrorists killed in the encounter that broke out between terrorists and security forces in Sekipora area of Bijbhera in South Kashmir's Anantnag district in the wee hours of Friday. During a search operation, Indian troops opened fire and martyred a youth from the Baramulla district of IoK. He was involved in several attacks on security forces, atrocities against civilians, and bank robberies in south Kashmir. He had fled from police custody while en route to Shri Maharaja Hari Singh Hospital for medical examination.

"This week was great, those involved in killing of innocent people in Kulgam, Pulwama and Shopian belt were neutralised". Two policemen were killed in the firing that ensued.

Naveed Jatt killed in an encounter at central Kashmir's Budgam district. Jatt, who hailed from Multan in Pakistan, had escaped from police custody in February this year.

Meanwhile, Director General of Police Dilbagh Singh said that they will write to the Union Home ministry to inform Islamabad to take his body.

Security forces had started a cordon and search operation in Kuthpora village after receiving specific information about militants' presence.

Jutt along with his associates sneaked into J&K in October 2012 and "had a long history of terror crime records since".

Jatt, along with two local terrorists were accused of killing Bukhari, editor-in-chief of English daily Rising Kashmir, on 14 June.

While Jatt was a Lashkar operative, his escape was reported to have been planned and executed by the Hizbul Mujahideen, on the instructions of its chief Riyaz Naikoo.

Police also say that Jatt was part of the group of assailants who killed prominent journalist Shujaat Bukhari in a daring attack inside Srinagar's high security press area in June. As the searches were going on, the search party was sacked upon by the hiding militants.
