Former FBI director James Comey is subpoenaed to testify about 2016 election

The House Judiciary Committee has issued subpoenas for former FBI director James Comey and former attorney general Loretta Lynch to appear for closed-door interviews in a probe of how federal law enforcement officials handled investigations of Hillary Clinton's emails and the Trump campaign's alleged Russian Federation ties.

Last week, when Democrats were warned that Comey and Lynch would likely be subpoenaed, Judiciary panel ranking Democrat, Rep. Jerrold Nadler, N.Y., admonished panel Republicans for issuing them "out of the blue, with very little time left on the calendar".

Comey announced his subpoena in a tweet Thanksgiving morning, saying he's "happy to sit in the light and answer all questions" but will "resist" a closed-door questioning session.

Comey, who was sacked by Trump, tweeted of House Republicans: "I've seen enough of their selective leaking and distortion". "Got a subpoena from House Republicans".

Why City boss Guardiola is in trouble
We came up against a team, Juventus, that were superior to us, and they'd beat us every time we played them. Guardiola said: "He is going to try to do the best job, like we try as managers and football players".

US President Donald Trump has repeatedly accused Comey and Lynch of covering for Hillary Clinton in an investigation into her use of a private server for emails while she was secretary of state.

Outgoing House Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte (Va.) is requesting that Comey and Lynch testify at dispositions held December 3 and 4, respectively, according to documents shared by Politico reporter Kyle Cheney.

The subpoenas come three weeks before the House Judiciary Committee switches hands.

Additionally, Comey's attorney on Thursday issued a statement saying that the former Federal Bureau of Investigation director would fight the subpoena in court unless House Republicans agreed to let the hearing take place in public.

In a statement to Politico, Goodlatte's office brushed aside the proposal and reiterated the committee stood ready to issue a subpoena if their request was not met.

Earlier this month, Goodlatte gave congressional colleagues a heads up that he was preparing to subpoena Lynch and Comey, the Associated Press reported.

He said that they will fight this "abuse" in court. "Let's have a hearing and invite everyone to see", Comey wrote. He says of House Republicans: "I've seen enough of their selective leaking and distortion".
