Senate Democrats weigh lawsuit over Trump's appointment of Whitaker

Adam Schiff, who spent the last two years playing defense as the Republican-run panel pushed back against special counsel Robert Mueller and probed accusations of Federal Bureau of Investigation misconduct, how plans to use the panel to keep watch on Whitaker.

Whitaker was appointed acting attorney general on Wednesday after President Donald Trump pushed out Jeff Sessions as the country's chief law enforcement officer.

In an interview with the David Webb Show, on audio obtained by Mother Jones, Whitaker essentially said that Trump can and should do whatever he wants with the Mueller investigation. He also tweeted an ex-prosecutor's opinion piece that described a "Mueller lynch mob", which he said was "worth a read". The FBI has also investigated World Patent Marketing, the Wall Street Journal reported Friday. A Justice Department spokeswoman told the newspaper that Whitaker was not aware of any fraudulent conduct.

Protestors are marching to raise the alarm about the "existential threat" Whitaker poses to Mueller's investigation and that "nobody is above the law". Some lawyers say it is illegal because he has not been confirmed by the Senate.

Whitaker has faced pressure from Democrats to recuse himself from overseeing Mueller based on the comments, which were made before he joined the Justice Department previous year.

Whitaker served on the company's advisory board, appearing in promotional materials and, at one point, sending an email that appeared to threaten a disgruntled client.

While some speculated the "46" in his Twitter handle MattWhitaker46 referred to a future run at president-Trump is the 45th USA president-it ostensibly refers to his jersey number, 46, when he played with the Iowa Hawkeyes football team from 1989 to 1982. They were not authorized to speak publicly about private conversations and spoke on condition of anonymity.

Since Sessions resigned at Trump's behest, the president would not need Senate approval to appoint an acting attorney general.

The incoming House Intelligence Committee chairman is warning new acting attorney general Matt Whitaker any role he plays with the Mueller probe 'will be exposed'.

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., has scheduled a conference call for the Democratic caucus following Attorney General Jeff Sessions' resignation at the president's request, Politico reports.

"Conservatives have many reasons to be optimistic about acting Attorney General Matt Whitaker", Conservative Review's Jordan Schachtel wrote Thursday, praising his willingness to "rein in" the "endless Russian Federation probe, which has failed to produce a scintilla of evidence"; to potentially prosecute "untouchables" such as Hillary Clinton; and to continue the conservative policy work Sessions had been doing.

"There is a very specific scope to this investigation", Whitaker said.

Second, he should pledge that he will not disclose sensitive details of the Mueller investigation to anyone in the White House, at least not without securing the agreement of Mueller and his team that doing so would not compromise the investigation.

"We've been compliant, it's going to go on, nobody's interrupting it or interfering with it", Conway said on ABC.
