False Kavanaugh Accuser Referred to FBI and DOJ for Investigation

Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh testifies before the Senate Judiciary Committee on Capitol Hill in Washington, Sept. 27, 2018.

"The Committee is grateful to citizens who come forward with relevant information in good faith, even if they are not one hundred percent sure about what they know", Grassley said.

Kavanaugh was asked about the letter in a September conference call under oath and denied the allegations.

"Following the separate and extensive investigations by both the Committee and the FBI, there was no evidence to substantiate any of the claims of sexual assault made against Justice Kavanaugh", the report states.

Grassley wrote that the committee initially investigated her allegation even though it came "from an anonymous accuser" with "no return address", "timeframe", or "location" of the alleged assaults.

"One of his accusers, false accusations, just came out a little while ago and said it was all a lie; that she never met now-Justice Kavanaugh", Trump said at a rally in Montana on November 3 before criticizing the state's incumbent senator.

Avenatti also was referred for promoting to the committee another woman who accused Kavanaugh accuser of gang rape.

"It was a made-up story", Trump said of Munro-Leighton's allegedly recanted allegations, amplifying an argument he made on Twitter earlier Saturday. Kamala Harris (D-Calif.) forwarded a letter from a "Jane Doe" to Committee investigators, claiming that Kavanaugh and a friend had raped her "several times each" in the "backseat of a auto".

She also admitted that she was using a "tactic" and a "ploy" to get this accusation more attention in hopes that it would sink Judge Kavanaugh's nomination. "The whole thing is just a crock, farce, wrong, didn't happen, not anything close", according to the letter.

Subsequently, Committee investigators began looking into Munro-Leighton's allegations. "I am not Jane Doe. but I did read Jane Doe's letter".

In a letter sent Friday, Senate Judiciary Chairman Chuck Grassley referred Munro-Leighton to the Justice Department and FBI for investigation. "Under questioning by Committee investigators, Ms. Munro-Leighton admitted - contrary to her prior claims - that she had not been sexually assaulted by Judge Kavanaugh and was not the author of the original "Jane Doe" letter".

"No, no, no. I did that as a way to grab attention". I saw it online. Grassley said Committee investigators attempted to reach Munro-Leighton by phone on October 3, but were unsuccessful.

In addition, Grassley also requested an FBI investigation into accuser Julie Swetnick and her attorney, porn star lawyer Michael Avenatti, who also represents Stormy Daniels.

Justice Brett Kavanaugh admitted that she conjured up the sexual assault charges she presented to congressional investigators during the confirmation hearings to "get attention".
