Tropical system developing; rain likely late next week

While not now a significant threat to the United States, there is growing interest in what happens to this potential development when it moves into the Gulf of Mexico early next week. Storms that form late in the season historically come from the west -including the western Caribbean, Bay of Campeche and the southern Gulf of Mexico.

As great as this weekend will be, all eyes are in the Caribbean Sea as a group of storms lifts into the Gulf of Mexico, where confidence is growing that we will see our next tropical system. NHC forecasters said that the environmental conditions surrounding the disturbance are favorable for the system to become more defined.

But they shouldn't bode well for Kavanaugh's confirmation, despite the protestations of Republicans like Rep. She claims Kavanaugh exposed himself to her during a party while they both were at Yale in the early 1980s.

As of Saturday it was moving north and posed a 90 percent chance of development within five days. Highs should stay in the low 90s both days with a partly cloudy sky and not much in the way of a rain chance.

Long range forecast data is a bit split on two different scenarios (or outcomes) for this disturbance, ranging from just an area of tropical moisture and heavy rain to potentially a tropical storm.

The 2018 Atlantic Hurricane Season is far from over - and the USA will likely see yet another land-falling tropical system in the coming week.

"Interests in the Yucatan peninsula, western Cuba, and the northern coast of the Gulf of Mexico should monitor the progress of this system during the next several days, the NHC report further notes". It will continue to move off to the east, away from the U.S.

Chinese official: Beijing should target goods needed by US
The Journal report quoted one senior Chinese advisory official saying China would not negotiate "with a gun pointed to its head". American officials say those violate Beijing's market-opening commitments and worry they might erode USA industrial leadership.
