Trump calls Kavanaugh allegations 'a big, fat con job'

President Donald Trump on Wednesday accused Senate Democrats of being hellbent on taking down Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh, saying they would have attacked him even if the Federal Bureau of Investigation had returned a "perfect score" after investigating sexual misconduct allegations against him.

Ford's tearful recounting of allegations that Kavanaugh sexually assaulted her when they were in high school, led Trump to express sympathy for Kavanaugh and his family for having to listen to the testimony, according to two Republicans close to the White House but not authorized to speak publicly about private conversations.

But he'll be watching the hearings and looks forward to hearing from Ford, he said, "and you know what, I could be persuaded".

One thing was clear: There's a lot riding on Thursday's Senate Judiciary Committee hearing. Trump was also asked about a number of women who have accused him of sexual misconduct in the past. However, he followed that with glowing testimonials to Kavanaugh's intellect and fitness for the job and, later, a defense of saying that Democrats had created a "big fat con job" with the accusations.

"Well it does impact my opinion, and you know why?" I think people are wise to it.

Cristiano Ronaldo's incredible bicycle kick goal in the same competition against Juventus for Real Madrid was also thought to be in the running.

Trump also announced he is leaning toward keeping Rod Rosenstein as deputy attorney general, a decision that would avoid a major crisis at the Justice Department related to the Russian Federation investigation at the same time the massive controversy swirls around his Supreme Court nominee.

Trump blamed Democrats for ginning up last-minute charges against Kavanaugh.

Kavanaugh has denied the allegations against him.

"I think it's going to be a very very important day in our country", Trump said. Trump's comments come at the 1:19 mark. He said there have been "a lot of false charges" against him.

Rosenstein's discussion of wearing a wire into the Oval Office lends credence to that charge, but there is much more to it. "We're not getting along at all with their negotiators", Trump said.

Fusion swiftly hired retired British spy and Trump hater Christopher Steele, who contacted his old sources in the Russian intel community for dirt to help sink a US presidential candidate.

"I didn't expect that reaction, but that's OK", he said at the time, pressing ahead undaunted. The president says the heads of states and delegates in the audience "weren't laughing at me".

And he warned that the country was adopting a new, "dangerous standard" of justice, in which "you are guilty until proven innocent".

Trump declined to call the women who have made accusations against Kavanaugh liars, but said he empathizes with the judge given that multiple women came forward with allegations against him during the 2016 presidential campaign. So the fake news said people laughed at President Trump.

But Trump has been fixated on the Supreme Court confirmation battle as he shuttles between meetings with world leaders and wields the gavel at Wednesday's meeting of the United Nations Security Council.

And even if their homes survived intact, hundreds of thousands of utility customers who lack power have limited food options. Charlotte and Asheville in North Carolina, and Roanoke, Virginia, could also be in for heavy rains as Florence plods inland.

Mr Trump was asked if he was planning on firing deputy attorney general Rod Rosenstein, amid reports he had planned to secretly record the president and use the 25th amendment to have him removed.
