English Premier League Report: Manchester City v Newcastle United 01 September 2018

Premier League champions Manchester City on Saturday, September 1, returned back to winning ways as they defeated vising Newcastle United 2-1 at the Etihad stadium.

Pep Guardiola's side restored their advantage seven minutes after the restart when Walker scored his first goal for the club with a rocket from 30 yards which left Newcastle goalkeeper Martin Dubrakva with no chance. The Germany worldwide hasn't started any of City's league games this season and didn't even make the squad with reports circulating that Pep Guardiola has grown frustrated with the forward's attitude, but considering the chances his team mates missed, you have to ask if his side missed him.

The 22-year-old started just one of City's first five games last season, with Guardiola saying that "he didn't make a good preseason".

Manchester United's Luke Shaw set for England recall
Shaw replaces his United team-mate Ashley Young in the squad and will compete for a starting place against Tottenham's Danny Rose .

At first, it appeared as if he would not be missed.

Riyad Mahrez was unable to punish Salomon Rondon's slackness but, when returning Magpies captain Jamaal Lascelles passed straight to Benjamin Mendy, the full-back found Sterling to cut inside for an emphatic finish.

Sterling, the man selected in the left-sided attacking role that Sane filled last season, marked his 100th Premier League appearance by opening the scoring.

Wolves are hopeful that Matt Doherty will be fit for City test
In the last two seasons when Championship winners have faced Premier League winners, the former has been victorious. Manchester City head to the Molineux Stadium to take on Wolverhampton Wanderers in pursuit of three more points.

City could have extended that lead.

Newly-promoted Fulham are a team with plenty of talent, new signing Jean Michaël Seri, who had been linked with City, in particular settling well, but City will be heavy favourites to win that tie on home turf. Aguero, in space on the break, produced a cross from which Fernandinho and then David Silva, twice, were denied by brilliant Dubravka blocks to keep the score down to 2-1.

Willian admits he would have left Chelsea if Conte had stayed
Chelsea coach Maurizio Sarri also confirmed that Belgium worldwide Eden Hazard will not be leaving the club this season. Willian believes the fresh tactical approach can help Sarri secure a win over fellow new Premier League boss Emery.
