Moonves Keeps His Job For Now as CBS Looks for Independent Investigator

The CBS board met Monday and is in the process of starting an independent investigation.

The CBS board's independent directors on Friday said in a statement released several hours before The New Yorker article was published that the board will review the claims.

Dinah Kirgo shared a similar story in which Moonves feigned interest in a business meeting only to pursue a dinner with her alone. Douglas told Farrow that she got out of the office but lost her agent and future work with CBS, she believes, as a result of the incident.

Six women claimed Moonves, who has served as CBS's top executive since 2006, sexually harassed them between the 1980s and late 2000s, according to a report Friday from The New Yorker.

Governments and automakers are warning the move would come with dire consequences for the United States economy. The Fed has hiked interest rates twice this year and could jack the rate up twice more before year's end.

Six women have accused the powerful television executive of unwanted sexual overtures that span decades, saying they suffered professionally after rebuffing his advances.

CBS's lack of immediate action against Moonves was a "slap in the face to the courageous women who came forward", said Melissa Silverstein, founder of the blog Women and Hollywood, in a Twitter post, as social media reacted quickly to CBS's announcement. "And the conversation ended, and he went from being very friendly to being really cold".

The New Yorker account by reporter Ronan Farrow comes while CBS is battling Shari Redstone, whose family controls the media giant as well as Viacom. "All allegations of personal misconduct are to be taken seriously", they said in a statement. "But I always understood and respected - and abided by the principle - that "no" means 'no, ' and I have never misused my position to harm or hinder anyone's career", Moonves said. Moonves' wife, Julie Chen, a CBS presenter, has also publicly supported him.

Chen, who has been married to Moonves for 14 years, then turned to the camera and said, "Some of you may be aware of what's been going on in my life the past few days". I issued the one and only statement I will ever make on this topic on Twitter. In it, she wrote: "Leslie is a good man and a loving father, devoted husband and inspiring corporate leader".

Following Monday's board meeting, CBS announced that it postponed the company's 2018 annual meeting of stockholders that was previously scheduled for August 10 until further notice.

She said she fully supports him.
