Two steps back on North Korea

Hours after Trump's tweet, State Department spokeswoman Heather Nauert said North Korea offered to meet a USA delegation on Sunday to discuss the repatriation of remains of U.S. soldiers killed in the 1950-53 Korean War, a pledge Trump had said he secured from Kim during last month's summit.

No skin off Trump for trying face-to-face diplomacy with Kim, but it sure looks like it's time to reschedule the war games with South Korea that he put on hold as a good-faith gesture - and to look at fresh USA sanctions.

The North Koreans gave no reason for the postponement but offered to meet on July 15th, Nauert told reporters on Pompeo's plane returning to Washington from the NATO summit, according to an Associated Press report.

The North Korean leader also voices hope that "the invariable trust and confidence in Your Excellency Mr. President will be further strengthened in the future process of taking practical actions".

Coming after a year of Twitter taunts and nuclear brinkmanship, the meeting between Kim and Trump was historic, in that it was the first meeting between a U.S. president and his North Korean counterpart. Pyongyang has asked the UN Command Armistice Commission to upgrade the talks to a higher level to include a USA general, South Korea's foreign ministry said.

He said the global community should support Jordan and warned that thousands of lives would be lost if urgent action was not taken.

The prospects for the peace treaty depend on whether negotiations on denuclearization between the United States and both Koreas stay on track following the Jun 12 summit between Trump and the North Korean leader in Singapore.

This latest incident comes shortly after Pompeo's visit to Pyongyang resulted in North Korea accusing Pompeo of making a "unilateral and gangster-like demand for nuclearization". They signed a joint statement reaffirming North Korea's commitment to giving up nuclear weapons.

The head of the DPRK Kim Jong-UN wrote to the President of the United States Donald Trump a letter in which he praised the efforts of the two parties to implement the reached at a meeting in Singapore of the arrangements.

Seoul's Defense Ministry said the remains of an unidentified allied soldier, presumably American, found in South Korea in 2016, will be sent to the United States.

"I firmly believe that the strong will, honest efforts and unique approach of myself and Your Excellency Mr. President aimed at opening up a new future between the DPRK and the USA will surely come to fruition", the letter said.

Fazio said it was a change in mindset that was crucial for Argentina, who face France in the last 16 Saturday. He said: " Messi came up to us and told us to calm down and not be stressed".

The North Korean leader also said their "strong will, honest efforts and unique approach" towards a new future will bear fruit.

"We had expected that the USA side would offer constructive measures that would help build trust based on the spirit of the leaders' summit. we were also thinking about providing reciprocal measures", Pyongyang's Foreign Ministry said in a statement, according to The Associated Press.

Kim also appeared to suggest another summit with Trump. "We still cherish our good faith in President Trump", the statement said.

Hundreds of remains have been repatriated since 1990, but the process has been fraught with mistrust.

"Vice Chairman Kim Yong-chol agreed in his dialogue with Secretary Pompeo to have his team meet with an American team in Panmunjeom on or around July 12th to move forward with the repatriation of American service members' remains", the spokeswoman said Thursday.
