Gaza Violence: Turkey Expels Isreali Diplomat As Israel Also Retaliates

Israeli troops shot dead dozens of Palestinian protesters on the Gaza border on Monday when the high-profile opening of the US Embassy to Israel in Jerusalem by the administration of President Donald Trump raised tension to boiling point after weeks of anti-Israeli demonstrations.

"The protests will continue because they have not achieved their goals yet", said Hazem Qasem, a spokesman for the group.

But there was no criticism from the USA, which shares the stance of Israel, Washington's main ally in the Middle East, that Palestinian radical group Hamas is the one exclusively responsible for weeks of violence on Israel's border with Gaza.

The bloodiest day for Palestinians in years has created a diplomatic crisis.

On Monday, Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas called the killings in Gaza "a massacre", and blamed both Israel and the United States.

But he's also signaled that the festival is reanalyzing its procedures and making its selection committees gender-balanced. Festival director Thierry Fremaux earlier this week hailed Saturday's event as a way for women "to affirm their presence".

Countries have summoned and recalled ambassadors, the United Nations has issued condemnations and some have called for an investigation of Israel's actions.

Along with rejecting the U.S. Embassy move, Palestinians are also protesting to mark the anniversary of what they call the "nakba" or "catastrophe" in reference to the hundreds of thousands of Palestinians who were expelled or fled during the 1948 war surrounding Israel's creation. No casualties were reported by either side.

Most world powers do not recognise Israeli sovereignty over the entire city and says its final status should be set in peace negotiations. Their goal-and they've said it publicly-is to destroy Israel.

The comments sparked a widespread debate about whether Israel or the vociferously anti-Israel Hamas, which claimed the victims as their own martyrs, was to blame for the deaths.

"Let's remember that the Hamas terrorist organization has been inciting violence for years, long before the United States chose to move our embassy", she said.

A United States delegation travelled to Beijing last week to discuss the brewing trade conflict with their Chinese counterparts. The firm's products depended on American chips and other components and is unable to continue operating without key supplies.

"They were keen these marches do not slide into armed confrontations and we agree with the brothers in Egypt over that", Sinwar said in an interview on Al Jazeera television. "They control the Gaza strip and everything that happens there goes through them". Even before the latest round of bloodshed, Gaza's health system of 13 public hospitals and 14 clinics run by NGOs had buckled under persistent blockade-linked shortages of medicines and surgical supplies. "No one would." Haley said.

Monday saw a ceremony to open the US Embassy in Jerusalem, in an event that was followed by violent clashes between Israeli security forces and Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.

The protests, which have seen unsuccessful attempts to break through the fence, have dwindled since Monday, and the start of fasting for the Muslim holy month of Ramadan on Thursday may further lessen interest. More than 2,200 Palestinians were also injured by gunfire or tear gas, local medics said. Abandon the fantasy that says Israel will disappear. A Hamas official said that 50 of those killed were members of the group.

Israeli officials quickly seized upon his remarks. Paraguay is slated to do the same next week.

"Moving the U.S. Embassy to Jerusalem was not only a hostile act against the people of Palestine as we mourn 70 years of 'nakba, ' but is as well a violation of global law", said Amal Jadou, deputy minister for European Affairs in the Palestinian foreign ministry.
