US judge: Mass. assault weapons ban doesn't violate 2nd Amendment

Massachusetts' beefed-up ban on assault weapons doesn't violate the Second Amendment of the Constitution, a US judge ruled, handing a victory to gun-control advocates seeking to pass such a law nationwide following a spate of deadlymass shootings.

Calling assault weapons the "weapons of choice for mass shooters", Healey said the notice, which drew protests and lawsuits, was spurred by sales of 10,000 "copycat" weapons. Illinois-based Guns Save Life has promised to sue to stop implementation of the law, saying it violates Deerfield residents' Second Amendment rights.

"We hope that our local decision helps spur state and national leaders to take steps to make our communities safer", Mayor Rosenthal said in a press release.

The ruling in MA follows an ongoing debate about AR-15s, due in part to their use in shootings such as the violent spree in Parkland, Florida on Valentine's Day that left 17 people were dead. Young said the AR-15 semi-automatic rifle was such a weapon.

Trump Says US Not In 'Trade War With China'
News that China has issued a list of 106 US products that will be subject to additional tariffs is likely to weigh on Wall Street. China has imposed tariffs of its own in response to Trump's actions and remains optimistic about its manufacturing potential.

The village, in a statement, said the ordinance followed a Highland Park, Ill., assault weapons ban from 2013.

A nationwide ban on assault-style weapons in place from 1994 to 2004 was shown to significantly reduce the number of mass shootings in America, according to research by Louis Klarevas of the University of MA.

A few weeks after the massacre, Gov. Rick Scott (R) signed into law a suite of new gun control measures, and while the legislature failed to deliver an assault weapons ban like many shooting survivors pushed for, it did include a number of other common sense gun policies - like raising the minimum age to buy a long gun from 18 to 21, imposing a mandatory three-day waiting period on gun purchases, and banning the sale of bump stocks.

But the court previous year turned away an appeal from Maryland gun owners who challenged the state's ban on assault weapons. A lawsuit was filed by gun rights advocates, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 7th Circuit ruled in the city's favor.

Now the buy-back scheme will only apply in Germany to begin with, but it could expand outside the country in future. Many German cities exceed European Union limits on atmospheric nitrogen oxide, known to cause respiratory diseases.

Police in Deerfield will have the power to confiscate banned weapons and destroy them after determining they were not needed as evidence. Those four shootings combined claimed 150 lives. Opponents were quick to take issue with the ban.

"Deerfield High School senior Ariella Kharasch, who supported the legislation, wants more action on local and national levels".

"This is our generation's fight", she said, according to the Chicago Tribune.

US, China trade measures could impact global economy
Beijing reported a trade surplus of $275.8 billion with the United States past year , or two-thirds of its global total. Now they are going to be tested. "This is not the Trump administration starting something and China retaliating".
