Dry air to the north will undercut snow totals, so there may be locations in the northern portion of our viewing area that see hardly any snow at all.

A second wave of snow will push through late Friday into early Saturday with southern Iowa being the main target of this wave.

"Plan on hard travel conditions, including during the morning commute on Friday", the weather service said in its alert.
