Google took down over 700000 bad Android apps in 2017

So, what does that mean?

As far as raw numbers are concerned, Google took down 700,000 rouge apps in 2017, an increase of 70 percent over 2016's approximate 400,000. He did not provide an exact number but only said that 99% of all the malicious Android apps Google identified a year ago were detected and rejected during the review process before anyone could install them. Machine learning enabled Google to eliminate 99 percent of apps with abusive content before anyone was able to download them.

The company credits improvements to its machine learning models and new detection models for malicious and abusive techniques. "This resulted in taking down of 100,000 bad developers in 2017, and made it more hard for bad actors to create new accounts and attempt to publish yet another set of bad apps".

In an attempt to create a seamless experience for users, Google Files Go app is now available on Android tablets. While there weren't many of them, the mechanism reduced the number of installations by an "order of magnitude" over 2016, Google said. Basically, through the use of improved AI, the company has been able to provide more protections for Android users.

Google put all of the various malware scanning under Google Play Protect a year ago. Google said that Google Play Protect will continue to be updated as well as the other security measures that are used in Google Play Store. Even though Google Play Protect is good at catching a lot of these malicious apps, sometimes they still get through.

Google isn't simply taking action against more apps - they're also doing it in a timelier manner. Heck no! The battle against malware is never-ending and bad programs will make it through sometimes. Over the years, this commitment has made Google Play a more trusted and safer place.
