May hopes to boost Bombardier on trade mission to Canada

Mrs May will also meet the head of Bombardier before a key United States trade ruling on the dispute that, if it goes against the company, could cost 4,500 jobs at the company's factory in Belfast.

"We have obviously been looking at the Super Hornet aircraft from Boeing as a potential significant procurement of our new fighter jets", said Trudeau.

"We won't do business with a company trying to. put our aerospace workers out of business", he said.

"We will continue to stand up for jobs and stand up for the excellent airplane that is the Bombardier CSeries aircraft", Trudeau said.

"That's not the way the world should operate".

Harbour Capital Advisors LLC acquired a new position in Northrop Grumman Corporation during the first quarter worth $108,000. Northrop CEO Wes Bush said Monday that the new company will be stronger in "critical global security domains".

The prime minister also appears to have left open the door of excluding Super Hornets from a future competition to replace Canada's aging CF-18s.

The U.S. Commerce Department is now investigating the complaint, and is expected to release its preliminary findings next week. "Personally I will be contacting our sister unions in Canada to ask for their assistance in pressing Boeing to meet with the Canadian government on these very serious matters", he said.

Boeing has accused Bombardier of dumping its new CSeries passenger jet in the USA aircraft market, a charge the Canadian firm denies. Sajjan declined to comment.

Coming just days before the Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (Ceta), an agreement between the European Union and Canada that took seven years to negotiate, is enacted on 21 September, the PM was hoping to use her trip to discuss the potential of Downing Street using Ceta as a model for a bilateral trade deal with Canada after Britain leaves the European Union in March 2019.

Theresa May will hold talks today with Justin Trudeau, the prime minister of Canada, to try to head off a trade dispute threatening thousands of British jobs.

"We are both countries with ambitions to lead on the world stage and progressive values that underpin those ambitions, values including the importance of free trade, and respect for global law".

"We recognize the rules in place around negotiation with the EU and EU members and we respect the need for the U.K.to determine its path forward with Brexit from the EU", said Trudeau.

May agreed, saying she wants to ensure the change is "as smooth and as orderly as possible" to give certainty to businesses and investors.

May raised the issue with Trump in a call earlier this month and told reporters in Ottawa she would do so again this week on the margins of the United Nations.
